Professor Jin Sang-beom (Department of German Language & Literature · Director of the Institute for International Cultural Exchange) is actively promoting Korean culture in Germany.
As director of the Institute for International Cultural Exchange, Professor Jin has continuously organized seminars and forums on the identity of Korean culture. Recently he stayed in Germany and, in cooperation with the Association for Administrative Language and Qualitative Research, held a joint academic conference at the University of Bayreuth on the theme 'Horizons of Convergence between Eastern and Western Methodologies'.
At the conference, Dr. Michael Mayer of the University of Bayreuth and other distinguished scholars from East and West agreed that comparative study and exchange of Eastern and Western literature and culture can ultimately contribute to world peace. They also agreed to expand scholarly exchange.
In particular, to underscore the significance of the conference in promoting Korean culture, Professor Jin visited a number of leading German universities to publicize the excellence of Korean culture.
First, visiting the Free University of Berlin, home to Germany's leading Korean studies institute, Professor Jin delivered a lecture titled 'Globalization Strategies for Korea's Cultural Identity.' At the Department of Korean Studies at the University of Tübingen, he presented on 'Cultural Values Embedded in Traditional Korean Cuisine,' receiving a strong response from local German scholars and students.
During this visit, he also arranged to host an academic conference at Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) this December under the auspices of the Institute for International Cultural Exchange, and decided to invite prominent German scholars.
While staying in Germany, Professor Jin Sang-beom said, 'Although the Hallyu wave has attracted attention across Europe, people around the world do not fully recognize Korea's cultural identity and excellence. I will work to more deeply imprint Korean cuisine and its inherent cultural values, as well as our unique identity, on the global community.'
