Professor Yong-Chul Kang's research team (Ph.D. candidates Hye-Won Lee, Yeon-Hee Kim) from the Department of Electrical Engineering received the Minister's Award from the Ministry of Knowledge Economy for outstanding research at the 43rd Summer Conference hosted by the Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers.

Professor Kang's team presented a paper entitled 'Analysis of the Wind Power Hosting Capacity, Wind Energy Penetration, and Capacity Utilization of the Domestic Power Grid,' which drew attention from the academic community.

The study estimated how much wind power the domestic power grid can accommodate while maintaining frequency balance. It also confirmed that the maximum variability of wind power affects the grid's wind power hosting capacity, wind energy penetration, and capacity utilization.

Based on these results, Professor Kang's team proposed concrete measures and considerations for estimating economically viable installed capacities of wind farms without disrupting the grid's frequency balance.

Meanwhile, the KIEE Summer Conference is the largest academic conference in the field of electrical engineering in Korea. Approximately 2,000 industry–university–research experts presented 1,053 academic papers and research and development outcomes.
