"I think being able to come to the university and directly experience the department I'm interested in will be a great help in choosing my future career."
Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) is holding an event that allows high school students to directly experience university majors, and it has received a strong response from students.
The Admissions Evaluation Office, Office of Admission, announced that, beginning July 25, it has invited approximately 2,400 high school students from the province and is conducting major-experience sessions in 33 departments (and divisions) through August 10.
This major-experience event aims to help high school students, who are potential education consumers, understand the overall university curriculum and to discover and recruit outstanding talent through strengthened links between high schools and the university.
In particular, the Admissions Evaluation Office prepared the event by assigning major-related tasks to students in advance through the website and other channels to ensure more meaningful hands-on activities.
Participating high school students explored their fields of interest in advance through the tasks and greatly increased their understanding of those majors by visiting JBNU and taking part in the experience directly.
The participants said, "Visiting the departments in the fields I had been interested in, talking with professors and participating in experiments gave me a broader understanding of university and majors," and added, "Above all, it provided an opportunity to reaffirm and strengthen my passion for the major I have dreamed of."
Park Jong-min, Vice-President of the Office of Admission, stated, "The purpose of inviting high school students directly to the university for major-experience sessions is to strengthen the linkage between high schools and the university, thereby revitalizing public education, while helping education consumers gain a more detailed understanding of academic majors," and added, "Following the major-experience program, we plan to conduct mock in-depth interviews soon for high school students who wish to apply under the admissions officer screening."
