“I was surprised to learn that Korean history spans nearly 5,000 years, and the Korean cultural experience programs gave me a valuable opportunity to properly learn about Korean Wave (Hallyu) culture. If I have the chance, I would like to participate in Jeonbuk National University (JBNU)'s International Summer School again.” - Ricky Bushaway (University of Central Lancashire, UK)

The International Summer School organized by JBNU established itself as a vanguard in promoting Korean Wave (Hallyu) culture and concluded all activities of its three-week program with a completion ceremony at 4:30 p.m. on the 20th.

The International Summer School is a program that recruits domestic and international students during the summer break and offers a variety of lectures and Korean cultural experiences to enhance global awareness, enabling participants to earn academic credit. More than 50 international students from universities in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Spain, Japan and other countries took part.

Through this, the program was praised for promoting the excellence of Korea’s traditional culture worldwide and for instilling the stature of JBNU as it advances onto the global stage in the hearts of people around the world.

At the graduation ceremony, which formed a spectacular scene with around 100 foreign and JBNU students all wearing hanbok, President Seo Geoseok presented certificates. The atmosphere at the completion ceremony was further heightened by a pansori performance by prodigy Yu Tae‑pyeongyang, a second-year student in the Department of Korean Music.

Following this, the foreign students who participated in this summer school showcased the K-Pop skills they had honed in class and received enthusiastic applause.

Ashley Wirtz (Boise State University, USA) said, “I have long been interested in Korea and decided to participate in JBNU’s International Summer School. The substantive lectures and diverse Korean cultural experiences captivated me. I am grateful to JBNU for providing an excellent three-week program, and I will cherish Korea and JBNU in my heart,” she said.

President Seo Geoseok said, “I congratulate all of you on successfully completing the International Summer School program and graduating. I hope that the time you spent in Jeonju, the most traditionally Korean city, and at JBNU — a global, prestigious institution representing Korea — will remain your most precious memory. We will increase investment in internationalization to make JBNU a university admired by people worldwide,” he said.
