Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) on July 19 finalized the 2013 early admissions guidelines and began recruiting outstanding new students.

JBNU will select 2,408 students, representing 54% of the total intake, through the 2013 early admissions.

By selection type, the Admissions Officer Screening in Early Round 1 will select 656 applicants, or 14.7% of the total intake. Within the quota, 436 will be selected — Keun-Saram Track 396 and Regional Harmony Talent Track 40. Outside the quota, 220 will be selected — Rural Students 127 and Opportunity-Equity Selection 93.

Early Round 2 will select 1,752 applicants: General Applicants 1,560; National Contributors 46; Special Talent 48; Specialized High School Graduates 68; and Students with Special Educational Needs 20.

For Early Round 1, Stage 1 evaluates the school record academic score (500 points) and the school record non-academic areas (500 points) to screen three times the number of openings (two times for the Regional Harmony Talent Track). In Stage 2, the Stage 1 score (500 points) and an in-depth interview (500 points) are combined to determine the final successful candidates. For the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT), the average grade of two designated sections must be within the specified grade threshold.

In the General Selection of Early Round 2, Stage 1 screens three times the number of openings based solely on the school record (800 points). For non-general selections, four times the number of openings are selected (all applicants who pass document eligibility for the Special Talent Track). In Stage 2, the school record (800 points) and interview (200 points) are used to determine the final successful candidates. The CSAT minimum academic requirement requires applicants to sit all the subject areas used by each major, and two sections must each be within the designated grade thresholds.

The application period is: Early Round 1 August 17–22 and Round 2 September 6–11. Applications may be submitted via the admissions information website (http://enter.jbnu.ac.kr) and UwayApply Co., Ltd. (http://www.uwayapply.com), among others. Final successful candidates will be announced on December 6 at 2:00 p.m.

For the 2013 admissions, the Division of Interdisciplinary Majors changed its plan: instead of recruiting 40 from the Humanities and 10 from the Natural Sciences, it will recruit 50 from the Humanities only.

In particular, to simplify selection types in Early Round 1 (Admissions Officer Screening), the Keun-Saram Track and the Major-Specific Outstanding Applicant Track were consolidated into the Keun-Saram Track. The Regional Harmony Talent Track’s intake was increased from 20 last year to 40. The CSAT minimum grade requirement was also abolished.

In Early Round 2, the male-applicant-only track applied to the Department of Nursing has been abolished.

The scoring and weighting for the Admissions Officer Screening were also adjusted. In Stage 1, where last year the school record academic score and non-academic areas were weighted 60% and 40% respectively, this year each area is weighted 50%. In Stage 2, instead of conducting a separate comprehensive evaluation of the school record and application documents, the Stage 1 score will be counted at 50%.

Additionally, eligibility for the Rural Students track has been restricted to students who completed their entire compulsory education at rural middle and high schools and whose parents and the student all reside in rural areas. For the Opportunity-Equity Selection, only recipients of lower-tier welfare benefits will be recognized.

Also, unfilled non-quota early admission places that were previously carried over to Regular Admissions Group B will no longer be carried over starting with the 2013 admissions.
