Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) and the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) Jeonbuk Regional Headquarters (Director Yun Jae-gyeong) have agreed to join forces to foster global talent and promote technology exchange in the field of renewable energy.

The two institutions signed the agreement on July 13 at 11:00 AM in the 8th-floor conference room of the headquarters. President Seo Geoseok, Director Yun Jae-gyeong, Director Kang Yong-chul of JBNU’s Wind Energy Power Grid Technology Research Center, and other representatives from both organizations attended the ceremony.

The agreement aims to secure world-class technological capabilities in the renewable energy sector through excellent research and technology exchange between JBNU, which has top-level research capacity nationwide and trains talent in renewable energy, and KEPCO, which is leading efforts to build clean energy infrastructure. Through technology exchange, the partners also plan to strengthen the foundation for long-term expansion into overseas projects, so significant outcomes are anticipated.

Accordingly, the two institutions plan to carry out broad activities for technology exchange centered on JBNU’s Wind Energy Power Grid Adaptive Technology Research Center (Director Kang Yong-chul), the only center in the country dedicated to developing grid adaptation technologies to expand wind energy hosting capacity.

They will also mutually provide research outcomes and field tests in the renewable energy sector; participate in renewable-related courses, seminars, and other training such as in the wind sector; and KEPCO will provide students with opportunities to tour power facilities.

In addition, they agreed to promote the cultivation of outstanding talent in renewable energy by exchanging technical information, such as new technologies arising from research results, and employment information to strengthen students’ practical skills.

Director Yun Jae-gyeong said, “Our region has the best-developed renewable infrastructure and is therefore optimally positioned for overseas project expansion in the renewable sector. We will work together to strengthen engineering capabilities in the renewable field and broaden professional perspectives to train personnel who can be immediately deployed to the overseas projects that headquarters is prioritizing.”

President Seo Geoseok said, “Wind power, which enables low‑carbon green growth, is a core growth industry for our region. To ensure high-quality wind energy is supplied reliably through the grid, grid adaptation technology is essential. In that respect, today’s agreement carries important significance for the development of the wind energy industry and is expected to bring a new green impetus to our region.”
