During the summer break, the university has been transformed into a global campus where people from around the world come together.
The university launched an 'International Summer School' where domestic and international students study together, and held the opening ceremony at 3:00 p.m. on July 2 in the auditorium on the second floor of the Museum.
At the opening ceremony, which featured celebratory performances of Korean music and traditional Korean dance, President Seo Geoseok delivered remarks, followed by introductions of the instructors and courses and presentations of students from each country.
A total of 50 students from partner universities in the United States, France, Spain, Japan and other countries have come to the university for this International Summer School. They will take part with domestic students in Korean and English language programs, special lectures on various topics, and Korean cultural experiences.
In addition, through the U.S. Department of State's intensive language program (CLS program), students from leading U.S. universities have been staying at the university since June 18 for eight weeks and are enthusiastically engaged in Korean language classes, demonstrating a truly global mix.
The 'International Summer School' recruits domestic and international students during the summer break and offers a variety of lectures and Korean cultural experiences to enhance global mindsets, enabling participants to earn academic credits.
Through this program, the university expects to widely promote its high standing and positive image to the world and to raise the international profile of Jeonju, the city most representative of Korean tradition.
Students are also expected to interact amicably with students from leading universities worldwide, naturally learn English, and cultivate a global mindset.
On the day, President Seo Geoseok said, "We expect the International Summer School to become a model of a global campus as overseas and domestic students participate together in a variety of curricula and programs," and added, "We will continue to develop even more substantive curricula and invite distinguished professors from renowned foreign universities to make this the country's premier global education program."
