In the blazing summer sun, undeterred, students at Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) are entering study mode.
JBNU is fueling students' passion for learning through various special educational programs prepared to strengthen basic education during the summer break.
Selected last year for the Ministry of Education's Leading Project for Undergraduate Education Advancement (ACE Project), and striving to strengthen basic education through measures such as operating a four-semester system for freshmen, JBNU will operate a special summer term starting this year.
The courses, which run for one month from July 11 to August 10, are intended to allow students who took foundational major courses such as mathematics and physics in the first semester of their first year to properly prepare for their majors by completing regular courses during the break.
Classes such as basic and practical English are offered, and tuition for the courses is fully free of charge.
At the same time, the Office of Admission's Admissions Evaluation Office will operate the 'BMS Summer School' from July 15 to August 7 to strengthen students' basic education.
Offered courses include basic mathematics, practical English, basic physics, basic chemistry, and basic biology. Students receive focused instruction in required foundational subjects for two hours each day.
Kim Young-jung, ACE Project Director (Vice-President of the Office of Academic Affairs), said, 'The special summer term is implemented so that students can solidify their basic education and build a foundation for a smooth transition into major coursework,' and added, 'Strengthening basic education is expected to lead to broader improvements in educational competitiveness and, ultimately, students' employability.'
