This year, marking the 50th anniversary of the department's founding, the Department of Civil Engineering Alumni Association (President 최홍규, Division Head, Korea Water Resources Corporation) donated KRW 250 million to their alma mater in a show of support for junior students.
Led by Division Head 최홍규 of Korea Water Resources Corporation, alumni from the Department of Civil Engineering — including 임일빈, CEO of NCP.ple Co., Ltd. (Secretary-General); 양창용, Director of the Construction Disaster Prevention Research Institute (Treasurer); 심우섭, Head of the Civil Works Division at GS Engineering & Construction (Vice President); Professor 이병석 of the Department of Infrastructure Systems Engineering; and Professors 조기성 and 김유성 of the Department of Civil Engineering — visited President 서거석 on June 22 at 11:30 a.m. to hold the scholarship fund donation ceremony.
The scholarship fund was raised through contributions from Department of Civil Engineering alumni active across various sectors of society to provide a better academic environment for students.
Accordingly, the fund will be named 'Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Department of Civil Engineering Alumni Scholarship Fund' and will be awarded annually to students in the Department of Civil Engineering. A Scholarship Fund Management Committee will be formed to determine award amounts and select scholarship recipients.
Alumni Association President 최홍규 said, 'On the occasion of the department's 50th anniversary, we have increased the scale of scholarships for our juniors so that more students can benefit. We hope that they will devote themselves to their studies and grow into outstanding professionals who will lead Korea's construction industry.'
In response, President 서거석 expressed his respect and gratitude to the Department of Civil Engineering alumni for donating scholarships for nearly 20 years to help students grow into accomplished individuals. He added, 'As alumni show great interest in supporting their juniors, the university will also teach students better to nurture them into global leaders who will lead the world.'
