Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) ranked second among national universities in the number of top 1% papers listed in the National Research Foundation of Korea.

These results come from a recent analysis by the Korea Research Foundation of papers indexed in 2008–2009. JBNU holds a total of 146 top 1% papers, ranking second among national universities and tenth among all universities nationwide. The citation count was 15.14, confirming that these top 1% papers are highly cited and of high quality, ranking second among national universities.

Only Pusan National University exceeded JBNU in the number of top 1% papers. JBNU’s total is markedly higher than those of major regional flagship national universities from stronger regions—Chonnam National University (127 papers), Kyungpook National University (119 papers), Chungbuk National University (108 papers), and Chungnam National University (103 papers)—demonstrating that JBNU’s research competitiveness is among the highest of national universities.

This result is another achievement following last year’s JoongAng Ilbo survey, in which JBNU ranked ninth nationwide in the number of top 1% papers read and cited by scholars worldwide.

In particular, because the evaluation included humanities and social science papers, the results show that JBNU faculty research performance in the humanities and social sciences, as well as in the natural sciences and engineering, is at a very high level.
