Professor Seung‑hee Lee (Department of BIN Convergence Engineering) received the Special Recognition Award from the Society for Information Display (SID).
In 2008, Professor Lee was appointed an SID Fellow—a recognition that certifies the top 0.1% of the society's members as leading scholars in the field of information displays. This Special Recognition Award has further confirmed Professor Lee's status as a world‑class scholar.
Professor Lee, an active researcher in liquid‑crystal display (LCD) technology, received the award in recognition of contributions to the invention, product development, and commercialization of Fringe‑Field Switching (FFS), a wide‑viewing‑angle LCD technology commercialized in products ranging from high‑definition, high‑performance mobile phones and tablet PCs to LCD televisions.
Professor Lee's name was also included as the developer of FFS LCD on the LCD history chart commemorating SID's 50th anniversary, enhancing the prestige of Korean LCD technology.
Notably, among the eight recipients of this Special Recognition Award, three Koreans—including Professor Lee, Senior Kim Hyang‑yul of Samsung Electronics, and Team Leader Seok‑yeol Lee of AUO—are all alumni who completed their master's and doctoral studies at Jeonbuk National University (JBNU), demonstrating JBNU's world‑class research competitiveness in the field of display research.
Since joining JBNU in September 2001, Professor Lee has conducted active research in LCD technology and new materials development. To date, Professor Lee has published approximately 200 papers in journals indexed by the Science Citation Index (SCI) and has registered more than 100 international patents, significantly contributing to technological advancement in the field.
