Jeonbuk Wildlife Rescue and Management Center (Director Hae-beom Lee) released a great egret that it had rescued in May in Sillim-myeon, Gochang County, back at the original rescue site on June 5 at 3:00 p.m., after completing treatment.

In particular, the released great egret was fitted with a 'tracking device for migration-route research' through a joint study with the Ministry of Environment’s National Institute of Biological Resources. Its habitat and movement routes will be monitored and expected to provide valuable research data.

The great egret returned to the wild had been rescued on May 11 following a report by Ms. Geum-rye Mun of Mungumlye.

At the time of rescue it was in poor condition due to starvation and exhaustion. After transfer, it regained its health through the dedicated treatment provided by veterinarian Eun-ju Kim and the staff of the Wildlife Rescue and Management Center.

After recovering, the great egret underwent rehabilitation training and wild-adaptation programs at the center, enabling its return to the wild.

The great egret, with a body length of 90 cm, is the largest species in the heron family and is a winter visitor that is rarely seen in Korea.
