JBNU ranked first among national universities in the Internationalization category.

This assessment of the "Internationalization" category was made in the recent Asia university rankings by the Chosun Ilbo and UK-based QS. The Chosun Ilbo commented, "Although most national universities' rankings remained unchanged or declined, JBNU stood out most among national universities in the Internationalization category."

The evaluation closely examined four areas: outbound exchange students, inbound exchange students, and the proportions of foreign faculty and foreign students.

Given that national universities face various constraints in hiring foreign scholars and faculty, JBNU's result is analyzed as evidence that its sustained efforts toward internationalization have borne fruit.

In practice, JBNU has operated the nation's largest "Global Leader Project," dispatching approximately 600 students annually each semester and during vacation to partner universities in Australia, New Zealand, the Philippines, China, and elsewhere. It has also actively expanded its exchange student programs through agreements with leading universities in the United States and Europe. In addition, through efforts to recruit international students, more than 1,000 degree-seeking international students are currently studying at the university.

In particular, by focusing on recruiting high-achieving international students, the proportion of students with TOPIK level 4 or above is 23.3%. This far surpasses other regional national universities, which have only around 10%, indicating that the qualitative level of JBNU's international students is very high.

Additionally, beginning this summer, JBNU plans to open an "International Summer University," where domestic and overseas students study together, offering various courses and Korean cultural experiences. This is expected to further strengthen internationalization.

President Seo Geoseok said, "Although national universities face many constraints compared with private universities in terms of internationalization, thanks to our efforts to date, we have been evaluated as the national university with the highest internationalization index. We will continue to increase recruitment of international students and faculty and expand partner universities so that we can, both in name and in fact, maintain our reputation as the most authentically Korean, globally prestigious university."
