Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) Continuing Education Center (Director Ko Young-ho) has been selected as the only institution in Jeonbuk for the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology’s 2012 University-Centered Lifelong Learning Activation Project.

The project supports universities with excellent educational infrastructure to provide high-quality education for adults, in order to respond to socio-economic changes such as declining birthrates, an aging population, and increased demand for new educational services arising from the advent of the knowledge society. Since the project began in 2010, JBNU has achieved the distinction of being selected three years in a row.

Accordingly, JBNU will operate substantive educational programs linked with local governments and regional lifelong learning institutions, supported by national government funds, support from four local governments — Gochang County, Wanju County, Jeonju City, and Sunchang County — and its own matching investment.

The JBNU Continuing Education Center, which has been implementing the project, was also selected for the 'Learner Tuition Support Project' for local residents. With this selection, it plans to undertake initiatives such as research on university system reorganization for lifelong education, program development, and the provision of tuition support and program operation to facilitate adult learners' participation in lifelong learning programs.

In particular, to ensure smooth implementation of the project, it will operate employment and vocational skills support courses for local residents, Academic Credit Bank System courses for obtaining credits and academic qualifications, regionally specialized programs, and support programs for marginalized groups through agreements with the local governments.
