"Department of Civil Engineering, Let's Join Forces for a New 100 Years!"

The Department of Civil Engineering celebrated its 50th founding anniversary with a commemorative ceremony at 2:00 p.m. on May 19 at Jinsudang Gain Hall, taking time to strengthen unity and fellowship.

At the event, about 300 alumni, including 최홍규, President of the Department of Civil Engineering Alumni Association, attended. President 서거석, 최길열, Chair of the Jeonbuk Branch of the Korean Society of Civil Engineers, 김성주, Member of the National Assembly-elect, and 라민섭, Director of Construction and Transportation, North Jeolla Province, congratulated the department on its 50th anniversary.

At the ceremony, honorary professors 배주성, 김성순 and 이규원, who have led the Department of Civil Engineering's development, as well as current faculty including Professor 조기성, were presented with plaques of merit and appreciation.

Also, the department's alumni agreed to donate 40 million won from the event's fundraising as scholarships for junior students to foster the development of Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) and the advancement of civil engineering in the Republic of Korea.

At the event, 최홍규, President of the Department of Civil Engineering Alumni Association, said, "This gathering is an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of the department's 50th anniversary and to reaffirm alumni commitment to unity among seniors and juniors and to the advancement of our alma mater," adding, "The new 100 years will be created by those of you gathered here and the junior alumni studying at our alma mater."
