Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) was upgraded one level in the 2011 annual evaluation of the Support Project for Leading Technology Transfer Organizations (TLOs) for universities and research institutes.

 This program, jointly administered by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, aims to develop dedicated university technology transfer organizations and to promote and revitalize Technology Transfer between universities and industry.

 JBNU, which had previously been selected for the first-phase support project, was recognized by the National Research Foundation of Korea in the "2011 Annual Evaluation of University Leading TLOs" for its outstanding performance and was upgraded to grade B. This effectively certifies JBNU as a university that leads Technology Transfer.

 Accordingly, JBNU will receive 200 million won in project funding this year to identify promising technologies within the university and provide prototype support to companies, among other activities, to seek to revitalize Technology Transfer.

 The reason JBNU was recognized as a university leading Technology Transfer is that it has achieved excellent Technology Transfer results since 2008, including earning approximately 1 billion won in Technology Transfer income last year. The income per Technology Transfer case also showed a 158% growth last year compared to the most recent three years, earning high marks.

 Jo Nam-pyo, Vice-President of Industry-University Cooperation , said, "The reason JBNU received a favorable evaluation in the university TLO support project is that our sustained efforts and excellent achievements in Technology Transfer were highly rated," adding, "By identifying and marketing outstanding technologies, royalty income is expected to increase and make a significant contribution to the university's finances."
