Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) produced the highest number of successful candidates among universities nationwide in the 2012 Regional Talent Recommendation Recruitment conducted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, with four successful applicants.
The Regional Talent Recommendation Recruitment system was introduced in 2005 to expand opportunities for graduates of regional universities to enter public service. Under the system, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety selects outstanding students recommended by universities nationwide and appoints Grade 7 interns through a Public Service Aptitude Assessment and oral examinations. This year, 80 candidates were selected in total: 40 in the administrative field and 40 in the technical field.
The successful candidates from JBNU this year are Choi Seong-chan (a graduate of the Department of Public Administration) and Jeon Hyo-seon (a graduate of the Department of Public Administration) in the administrative field, and Jeong Seung-hwa (a fourth-year student in the Department of Electrical Engineering) and Im Su-hyeon (a graduate of the Department of Molecular Biology) in the technical field.
Notably, JBNU produced four of the six successful candidates from the Jeonbuk region, accounting for 67% of the regional total. Since the program's introduction in 2005, the university has consistently produced two to three successful candidates each year.
JBNU's top national performance each year in the Regional Talent Recommendation Recruitment has been supported by institutional measures that enable systematic preparation for the examination. Financial support for private tuition and practical interview coaching have helped strengthen students' competitiveness.
The successful candidates will attend four weeks of basic training and three weeks of rotational assignments at central government ministries at the Central Officials Training Institute in March next year. After completing a one-year probationary period and undergoing review by each ministry's appointment review committee, they will be appointed as regular Grade 7 civil servants.
For this round of the Regional Talent Recommendation Recruitment, each university was allowed to recommend up to four candidates. A total of 367 applicants from 125 universities nationwide applied, yielding a competition rate of 4.5 to 1. Final selections were made through document screening, a written test (Public Service Aptitude Test), and interviews.
