Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) has been selected for the third consecutive year as a leading university for the Admissions Officers System by the Ministry of Education and the Korean Council for University Education in recognition of its outstanding performance since the system's implementation.

Recently, the Ministry of Education and the Korean Council for University Education selected 30 universities, including JBNU, as Leading Universities for the Admissions Officers System Operation Support Program for achieving the best results in the 2011 support project and for submitting the most suitable implementation plans for the 2012 leading university criteria. In addition, they designated 20 universities as "Excellent Universities" and six universities for "Specialized Recruitment Unit Operation."

As a result, JBNU's three consecutive selections as a leading university for the Admissions Officers System once again demonstrated that the university is guiding the establishment of this advanced admissions system. Since the system's introduction in 2008, JBNU has secured government funding for five consecutive years.

JBNU was chosen as a leading university for the Admissions Officers System because it received high evaluations in fairness and credibility, as well as professionalism—factors regarded as most important in the modernized university admissions process—thereby greatly contributing to the system's establishment.

In particular, JBNU was praised for developing diverse Admissions Officers selection methods that reflect the characteristics of each recruitment unit, and for enhancing fairness, credibility, and professionalism by strictly adhering to multiple and multi-stage evaluations administered by full-time admissions officers, faculty admissions officers, and faculty-appointed admissions officers.

Park Jong-min, Vice-President of the Office of Admission, said, "As a leading university for the Admissions Officers System, we will strive to develop and implement selection methods that are fairer and more trusted. We will also develop a variety of post-admission student support programs so that we can fully perform our role and uphold our status as a leading university for the Admissions Officers System."

Since 2008, JBNU has actively implemented the advanced Admissions Officers System. Unlike regular early or regular admissions that select primarily based on high school academic records and CSAT scores, JBNU has progressively expanded the types and numbers of admissions officers-based selection methods to evaluate and select applicants based on so-called future potential—such as personality, creativity, perseverance in overcoming adversity, and passion for the major—which are difficult to capture through grades alone.

For the 2013 admissions, JBNU plans to select 656 students, representing 14.8% of the total recruitment, through the Admissions Officers selection (Early Admission Round 1).
