Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) University Museum recently received woodblocks and other artifacts from the Buan (Buryeong·扶寧) Kim clan, Gunsagong branch (郡事公派), which are of high value as historical sources.

The artifacts donated this time total 62 items, including the woodblocks of the collected works Jipojip (止浦集), Munhangong Dan-gwon (文翰公丹券), the woodblocks of Munhangong Dan-gwon (文翰公丹券), and four hanging plaques (懸板) of the Sangryangmun (上樑文) for the reconstruction (重修) of Dodong Seowon (道東書院).

The Buan (Buryeong) Kim clan (representative Kim Jeong-hwan, Doyusa) signed a donation agreement with Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) University Museum on May 1 and asked for the safe preservation and management of the artifacts and their active scholarly use.

The Buan Kim clan entrusted their precious assets to JBNU so that these valuable artifacts could be widely used as academic materials.

Currently, the University Museum, which holds approximately 5,000 woodblocks of the Jeolla Gamyeong in the collection of Jeonju Hyanggyo and the largest number of old documents among university museums nationwide, said that securing the woodblocks and printed materials of the Buan Kim clan, Gunsagong branch, represents an important set of primary materials that can serve as a foundation for establishing the Museum as a hub of Joseon-era documentary culture.

The Museum plans to, in consultation with the clan, actively utilize the donated artifacts for research on Joseon-era documentary culture and to use them in exhibitions to promote the excellence of our ancestors' printing and documentary traditions.
