The University, which has been actively strengthening its educational competitiveness by establishing a foundation for basic education, held an opening ceremony for the Center for Core Liberal Arts Education and is accelerating efforts to enhance educational competitiveness.

At 10:40 a.m. on April 30, the opening ceremony at the former University Headquarters was attended by President 서거석, other senior officials, and faculty and staff including 박세훈, the inaugural director of the Center for Core Liberal Arts Education, who celebrated the new start together.

Established on the basis of the former Liberal Arts Education Institute, the Center for Core Liberal Arts Education is the dedicated organization the University formed to strengthen basic education and consolidate educational quality after being selected last year by the Ministry of Education for the Project to Foster Leading Universities in Undergraduate Education Advancement, which recognizes the best teaching universities among 202 institutions nationwide.

The Liberal Arts Education Institute, which had been affiliated with the Division of Academic Affairs, was reorganized as the Center of Liberal Arts Education. The University integrated three related units—the Center of Liberal Arts Education, the Center of Teaching and Learning, and the e-Learning Support Center—to seek greater synergy.

In particular, the University Headquarters plans to extensively remodel the first and second floors of the former University Headquarters building to make this site the hub for strengthening educational competitiveness.

To that end, the Center of Liberal Arts Education will oversee the entire liberal arts curriculum, including curriculum development and design, administration and academic management, and assessment. It will also be responsible for enhancing students' foundational liberal arts competencies and managing various education-related accreditation tasks.

The Center of Teaching and Learning will handle tasks related to research and development for improving faculty teaching methods, developing student learning strategies and communication skills, providing learning and writing consultations, and producing educational media.

The e-Learning Center will undertake joint development and research of e-learning content among participating universities nationwide, provide e-learning support necessary for university course delivery, operate remote training programs, and offer cyber-learning consultation and guidance for students.

At the opening ceremony, President 서거석 said, "Having been selected for the ACE project last year and recognized as one of the best teaching universities nationwide, our University must have the Center for Core Liberal Arts Education at its core to secure the nation's top educational competitiveness. I hope the Center will firmly establish the foundation so that, through strengthening basic education and consolidating major education, our students' employment competitiveness can rise to the country's highest level."

Director 박세훈 said, "As the newly launched Center for Core Liberal Arts Education is central to strengthening basic education—the foundation for enhancing students' educational competitiveness—its role and responsibilities are weighty. We will do our utmost to continuously develop programs in which students learn creatively and faculty teach well, so that the University's educational competitiveness can be significantly enhanced."
