Professor Hyun-Sook Kim (College of Engineering, Department of Urban Engineering) was selected as the recipient of the 2012 Academic Award (Paper Category) from the Korean Society of Urban Design.

This award is presented by the Korean Society of Urban Design, the leading academic society in the field of urban engineering in Korea, to researchers whose contributions to academic development are widely recognized. Professor Kim received the award at the society's annual general meeting held at Suwon University on April 14, 2012.

Professor Kim received the award in recognition of the excellence of her research, which has long highlighted the need to preserve modern historical and cultural resources.

Professor Kim recently received significant attention in academia for presenting a study proposing urban regeneration measures titled 'Design of Priority Maintenance Blocks for the Revitalization of the Gunsan Modern Historical Landscape District.'

She has conducted diverse research in the fields of urban design and urban regeneration and has published numerous research outcomes in international and domestic conferences and journals. In particular, at this year's Korean Society of Urban Design Spring Conference, she also won the Outstanding Paper Award for 'A Study on the Use of Community Gardens in Aged Low-Rise Residential Areas for Urban Regeneration.'

Professor Kim graduated from the Department of Architectural Engineering at Jeonbuk National University (JBNU), completed her master's degree at its graduate school, and received her Ph.D. from Waseda University in Japan. She is currently actively engaged in external activities with the Presidential Committee on National Architecture Policy, the Korean Association of Land and Urban Planning, and the Korean Society of Urban Design, among others.
