“I believe the most rational approach for foreign crimes such as piracy is to establish an international organization dedicated to criminal prosecution and have that body handle such cases.”

Hans-Heiner Kühne, Professor Emeritus of Trier University and a leading authority on German and European criminal procedure law, delivered a special lecture at JBNU Law School on "Recent Trends in German Criminal Procedure Law" and on "piracy trials," a topic that has recently become an issue in Korea.

In the lecture, Professor Kühne outlined recent developments in Germany, such as investigations using telecommunications surveillance, and advocated establishing local prisons under United Nations supervision to detain arrested pirates.

Professor Kühne also urged students of the Law School , College of Law to become legal professionals who possess the attitude and ability to serve their communities.

Students who attended the lecture engaged in candid discussion with Professor Kühne through active questioning. The event was regarded as a valuable opportunity for students to learn about international academic trends through interaction with a distinguished foreign scholar.

Professor Kühne was born in 1943. He studied law at universities in Berlin and Saarbrücken, received his doctorate from the Faculty of Law at the University of Saarbrücken in 1969, and in 1978 obtained his qualification to serve as a professor at the Faculty of Law of the University of Saarbrücken.

He served as a judge at the Saarbrücken District Court in 1981. In the same year he was appointed a professor at Trier University, where he served as dean of the Faculty of Law and as vice-president. He has also served as a visiting professor in London and Istanbul. He is the author of around 200 papers and major works, including Criminal Procedure Law.
