A foundation has been established whereby Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) students can participate with the police in crime prevention and school violence prevention activities, earn academic credit, and receive additional points in police recruitment after graduation.
This development follows JBNU's signing of a memorandum of understanding with Jeonju Deokjin Police Station (Chief Yang Tae-gyu) for JBNU students to participate in the 'Police Academy,' thereby establishing a school–police cooperative policing system.
The signing ceremony was held in the Headquarters' 8th-floor conference room on April 16 at 11:30 a.m. and was attended by President Seo Geoseok, Chief Yang Tae-gyu, and other senior officials from both organizations, who pledged close cooperation.
The MOU aims to raise students' awareness of recent social issues such as school violence and to enable them to join police activities, providing opportunities for community service and career experience.
Accordingly, Deokjin Police Station will establish 'Police Academy' courses to manage and evaluate student activities, and JBNU will support students' participation in these courses.
After completing the Deokjin Police Station's 'Police Academy' program, JBNU students will carry out school violence prevention and guidance activities at their alma mater middle or high schools or at schools of their choice. They will receive community service academic credit and be granted incentives during police recruitment.
President Seo Geoseok stated, 'The Police Academy, which is the main element of this agreement, will be a valuable opportunity for students to learn the true meaning of community service and to appreciate the dedication and service spirit of police officers.' He added, 'I hope this MOU will help our region develop into the most livable area in the country and the place where residents' happiness levels are highest.'
