"I wanted to contribute, however modestly, to the advancement of my alma mater and to support the students who follow."

Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) alumnus Baek Gang-hyeon, CEO of UN I Insurance Consulting Co., Ltd., met with President Seo Geo-seok on the 10th at 11:00 a.m. and donated a scholarship fund of 50 million won.

Mr. Baek made the donation because his family has maintained ties with JBNU for three generations—his father, himself, and his son—and he wished to do something to support his alma mater and younger students.

A graduate of the Department of Psychology (Class of 1980), Mr. Baek continues a three-generation affiliation: his father, Honorary Professor Baek Yeong-gi, a former dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine, and his son, Baek Seung-yeol, who is currently a second-year student in the Department of Electronic Engineering.

Accordingly, JBNU will designate the fund as a scholarship for the Department of Psychology. Each semester five outstanding students will be selected and awarded 500,000 won each for a period of 10 years.

At the donation ceremony, Mr. Baek said, "The precious relationship with JBNU that has continued for three generations has, one could say, made who I and my family are today. I hope this fund will help departmental juniors study in better conditions, and I will continue to strive to contribute to the advancement of my alma mater."

President Seo Geo-seok responded, "Recently, many alumni have been donating scholarships out of concern for younger students, and as a result JBNU's scholarship funds have increased year by year, providing a solid foundation for students to study under better conditions. The university headquarters will spare no support so that we can be a university that teaches students better and does not fall short of the deep affection and concern for the alma mater."
