Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) has recently been selected for a series of large-scale government-funded projects, and is expected to make significant strides in technology transfer and in cultivating high-quality talent through Industry-University Cooperation.
▲ Selected for LINC Technology Innovation Track; Highest Government Funding Nationwide
JBNU was recently selected for the Technology Innovation track, the large-scale category of the Leaders in INdustry-University Cooperation (LINC) program, announced by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the National Research Foundation of Korea to create diverse Industry-University Cooperation leading models linked to regional industries.
Moreover, JBNU has the added distinction of receiving the largest allocation of government project funds nationwide under this program. Including government and local government support and its own contribution, JBNU will lead Technology Innovation-type Industry-University Cooperation with a total project scale of approximately KRW 25 billion to promote the mutually beneficial development of regional universities and local industry.
In this selection, JBNU was evaluated favorably for excellent programs such as establishing a one-stop corporate support center for industry collaboration and plans to operate family-company programs.
Accordingly, JBNU will reform its personnel and educational systems to be Industry-University Cooperation-friendly to create leading Industry-University Cooperation models, and will carry out Industry-University Cooperation support projects to support regional industrial development. Jeollabuk-do Province and Jeonju City will participate, promoting the project as Jeollabuk's representative Industry-University Cooperation initiative.
In particular, JBNU will concentrate support on workforce development and company support linked to regional industry, centered on its strength in the renewable energy sector.
▲ The Only Honam University Selected as an Industry-University Cooperation Focus University
At the same time, JBNU was selected as the lead university for the "2012 Industry–University–Research Joint Technology Development: Industry-University Cooperation Focused Project" supported by the Small and Medium Business Administration, the only university in the Honam regional economic area to receive this designation.
This project was launched this year by the Small and Medium Business Administration to strengthen the existing Industry–University–Research Joint Technology Development program and to provide periodic, close support for R&D execution.
Accordingly, JBNU will receive up to KRW 1 billion from the Small and Medium Business Administration for one year to support regional SMEs through R&D projects (start-up type, growth type) for fostering green industry foundations, and non-R&D projects—ranging from project planning to technology commercialization—such as management consulting, technical guidance, patent support, technology commercialization, design, marketing, and market access support.
Having recently been selected for the Ministry of Education's Leaders in INdustry-University Cooperation project—a large-scale national project worth approximately KRW 25 billion—JBNU's consecutive selections, including the Small and Medium Business Administration project, have established its reputation as a leading Industry-University Cooperation university in the Honam region.
▲ Selected for the Ministry of Education's Phase 2 Engineering Education Innovation Project
On the 2nd, JBNU achieved the notable result of being selected for the "Support Project for Centers for Engineering Education Innovation," announced by the Ministry of Education and the Korea Industrial Technology Promotion Agency.
This project was initiated to close the gap between the technical level of university-educated engineers and the demands of industry. JBNU will receive KRW 200 million annually from the government and carry out various activities to innovate engineering education over ten years through 2022.
Through this selection, JBNU will enhance its education system to train self-directed engineers and foster creative engineering talent by strengthening capstone design (integrated design) and field training to meet industry demands.
JBNU will also continue to promote the dissemination of technology commercialization models and the activation of Industry–University–Research network systems linked with industry.
