This year, as JBNU has substantially expanded scholarships and effectively realized half‑price tuition, donations to the development fund and scholarships have continued steadily, providing a foundation that enables students to study under improved conditions.

First, on the morning of March 15, Kim Yu‑seok (Class of ’81), CEO of Jungwoo Hwain Co., Ltd. and an alumnus of the Department of Chemical Engineering, donated 15 million won to be used for student scholarships.

Mr. Kim said that while managing a mid‑sized company he had been seeking ways to contribute to his alma mater’s development, and thus decided to donate a scholarship for juniors in his department.

Accordingly, the fund will be named the "Jungwoo Hwain Scholarship," and going forward three outstanding students from the Department of Chemical Engineering will be selected each year to receive scholarships of 1 million won each.

Earlier, on March 9, alumni of the Department of Radiology, Medical School, and Professor Emeritus Heo Sam‑nam, who retired on February 29 of this year, also donated development funds on March 9, asking that they be used to enhance the university’s competitiveness.

The alumni of the Department of Radiology, Medical School, who donated the development fund are five individuals: Moon Moo‑chang, director of Hyundai Radiology Clinic; Yang Seung‑moon, director of Iksan Central Radiology Clinic; Oh Jong‑hyun, director of Wooju Radiology Clinic; Cho Ho‑je, director of Seoul Ansan Radiology Clinic; and Hwang Seung‑bae, Professor, Department of Radiology, Medical School, JBNU.

They explained that they were deeply moved by the remarkable recent progress of their alma mater and pooled their support to donate to the development fund.

Professor Emeritus Heo Sam‑nam also donated 10 million won as a development fund expressing his love for the university and his students, and asked that it be used for the development of the Department of Animal Materials Engineering and for his students.

In addition, on January 20 the inaugural alumni association of the College of Engineering’s MOT (Management of Technology) executive training program (president: Kang Hwang‑bin) donated 100 million won to wish for the university’s development. Donations from various sectors continue.

President Seo Geoseok said, "Despite ŗ‑year consecutive tuition freezes and, this year, making the largest tuition reduction among national flagship universities, the role of the development fund is very significant in allowing us to increase scholarships and actively improve students' educational conditions. I thank the many people who strive for university development and who help our juniors and students study under better conditions. We will not forget this generous support and will work to further enhance the university’s competitiveness," he said.
