This year, our university, which is pursuing stronger educational competitiveness by establishing foundational education, has established the Basic Liberal Arts Education Center to strengthen students' foundational education.
The recently established Basic Liberal Arts Education Center reorganizes and expands the dedicated organization to strengthen foundational education at our university, which was selected last year for the Ministry of Education's Undergraduate Education Leading University Development Program (ACE Program) and was recognized as one of the nation's top teaching universities.
The Liberal Arts Education Institute, which had been affiliated with the Office of Academic Affairs, was reorganized as the Center of Liberal Arts Education. The Center, together with the Teaching and Learning Development Center and the e-Learning Support Center, were integrated as three related units to seek greater synergy, and one administrative team was established to facilitate the project.
Accordingly, the Center of Liberal Arts Education will oversee the entire liberal arts curriculum, including the development, planning, operation, academic management, and assessment of liberal arts courses. It will also be responsible for enhancing students' foundational liberal arts competencies and managing various education-related accreditation tasks.
The Teaching and Learning Development Center will be responsible for research and development to improve faculty teaching methods, for developing students' learning strategies and communication skills, for providing learning and writing consultations, and for producing educational media.
The e-Learning Support Center will conduct joint development and research of e-learning content among participating universities nationwide, provide e-learning support necessary for university course delivery, operate remote training programs, and offer cyber-learning counseling and guidance for students.
President Seo Geoseok said, "The newly established Basic Liberal Arts Education Center will serve as the central coordinating body for our university's plan to strengthen educational competitiveness by reinforcing foundational education." He added, "We will establish high-quality liberal arts education, support creative teaching and learning, and strengthen an online education support system that anyone can access to study, thereby building Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) with solid foundational education."
