The Department of Organic Materials and Fiber Engineering at Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) (formerly the Department of Textile Engineering) marked its 50th anniversary this year and held a commemorative ceremony on the afternoon of March 3 at the Corea Riviera Hotel in Jeonju, taking time to strengthen harmony and friendship.

On the day, President Seo Geoseok, Kim Man-sik, Chairman of the Korea Knit Industry Research Institute, Lee Hwa-sik, Chairman of the Jeonbuk Textile Industry Association, and approximately 300 alumni attended. Plaques of merit and appreciation were presented to professors and industry representatives who contributed to the development of the textile industry.

In addition, the alumni agreed to establish a scholarship fund of KRW 100 million to elevate the stature of their alma mater, JBNU, and to cultivate future generations who will contribute to the development of Korea's textile industry.

At the ceremony, Baek Cheol-gyu, President of the Jeonbuk National University Alumni Association, said, "This gathering is an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of the 50th anniversary of the Department of Textile Engineering and to reaffirm alumni commitment to harmony between seniors and juniors and to the advancement of our alma mater. Going forward, the alumni association will work to enhance the university's reputation and support the development of younger generations. Furthermore, we will actively participate in social contribution activities such as volunteer work for underprivileged groups and providing educational opportunities."
