“Class of 2012 Freshmen Take Flight from Geunjibeol!”

The university's matriculation ceremony for the 2012 academic year was held on February 27, 2012, at 2:00 PM at the Samsung Arts Center. President Seo Geoseok and heads of divisions, offices, bureaus, deans, faculty representatives, new students, and parents attended the event.

At the ceremony, President Seo Geoseok granted admission to 5,811 new students for the 2012 academic year. Jo Ju-hee of the Division of Interdisciplinary Studies took the oath on behalf of the incoming class.

Enrollment by program was as follows: 4,482 undergraduate students, 1,073 master's students, and 256 doctoral students.

At the same ceremony, a scholarship certificate was presented to Kim Il-ju of the Division of Interdisciplinary Studies, on behalf of outstanding freshmen, granting full tuition exemption through graduation as well as additional financial aid. In total, scholarships amounting to approximately KRW 1.96 billion were awarded to 1,923 students.

This represents an increase of more than KRW 10 million compared with last year. Although the university reduced tuition by 5.6% this year, scholarship funding has increased substantially.

In addition to the matriculation ceremony, the university invited parents of new students to a "University Visiting Day" at the University Academic and Cultural Center at 2:50 PM. The event introduced students' campus life, the academic calendar, and the university's vision, and received an enthusiastic response.

At the event, Park Jong-min, Vice-President of the Office of Admission, delivered a special lecture titled 'Guiding Your Child for a Successful University Life,' which drew strong approval from parents. Representatives from university offices then presented key academic policies and student support programs.

In his matriculation address, President Seo Geoseok said, “You who are beginning the most beautiful and important four years of your life at university possess unlimited potential and hidden talent. How you spend the next four years will determine whether you become a globally sought-after top talent or someone overlooked by life.”

President Seo added, “The standard of a good or prestigious university should be determined not by its location but by the quality of education it provides. Our university will devote all efforts to ensuring that our new students can compete successfully with students from any university in the world.”

Finally, President Seo said, “From your proud bearing and bright eyes today, I see the university's hopeful future. I hope you will train yourselves, develop your capabilities through constant self-discipline and diligent effort, and steadily pursue your dreams.”
