JBNU held the 2012 Academic Year New Student Orientation at 10:00 a.m. on February 14 and 15 at the Samsung Arts Center.

The new student orientation is intended to assist incoming students beginning university life by providing key information about the university.

With President Seo Geoseok and Executive Vice-President Shin Hyo-geun in attendance, along with administrative faculty from the university headquarters, college deans, department chairs and program directors, and about 4,000 new students from the colleges, pre-event activities included the screening of promotional videos and club performances.

The main program included President Seo Geoseok's welcome address and an explanation of JBNU's vision, followed by introductions of key administrators and an overview of the university's major academic regulations.

On the 14th, Attorney Lee Seok-yeon (Law School, Class of '74; former Commissioner of the Ministry of Government Legislation) delivered a special lecture titled 'Dreams and Challenges of Young People.' On the 15th, dentist-comedian and Director of Saramsarang Dental Clinic Kim Young-sam gave a lecture titled 'JBNU! Take Pride,' which received strong response from the new students.

In the afternoons, each college and department held their own orientation sessions, providing time for socializing.

In his welcome address, President Seo Geoseok said, “The four years of university life are a very important period in which the direction of your life is determined,” and added, “JBNU will do its utmost to help you achieve the dreams you desire, and we will devote all our energy and effort to ensure that your four years at the university become the most valuable and rewarding time of your lives.”
