Since 2009, the Jeonbuk Wildlife Rescue and Management Center (Director Lee Hae-beom, Professor) has led efforts to protect the natural ecosystem through wildlife rescue and management. On the 13th, the center released three Eurasian eagle-owls, which are designated as a Natural Monument and classified as a Class II endangered wild animal.

The release event, held near the relay tower on Mireuksan Mountain in Geumma-myeon, Iksan, was attended by Jeonbuk Wildlife Rescue and Management Center Director Lee Hae-beom, veterinary practicum students, and So Byung-hong, a member of the Iksan City Council. They returned the eagle-owls rescued in the Iksan area to the wild.

The eagle-owls released this time were individuals rescued last autumn. Considering that the owls had been fed by humans for an extended period, the Wildlife Rescue and Management Center prepared release-preparation boxes and left them on site with food so that, while adapting to the wild, the owls could obtain food if they failed to hunt and could use the boxes as resting shelters.

Lee Hae-beom, Center Director (Professor, College of Veterinary Medicine), said, "The Jeonbuk Wildlife Rescue and Management Center will continue to raise awareness of the value of nature conservation through ongoing release events and maintain sustained attention to creating environments in which wildlife suffering from habitat destruction can coexist with humans."
