Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) has enhanced its reputation as the nation's leading training center for secondary school teachers by producing a large number of successful candidates in the 2012 Academic Year public secondary teacher appointment examination.
In the recently announced 2012 Academic Year public secondary teacher appointment examination, JBNU celebrated a total of 104 successful candidates: 60 in Jeollabuk-do and 44 in other provinces.
This represents a 35% increase compared with last year, when 77 candidates passed. By subject, the numbers are: English 22, Mathematics 17, Earth Science 12, Korean Language 11, Chemistry 9, Physics 5, Biology 5, Chinese 4, Health 4, and Ethics 3.
In particular, in Jeollabuk-do—where 102 positions were recruited based on departments offering teacher education subjects—nearly 60% (60 candidates) of the successful applicants were JBNU students. This indicates that JBNU has recorded an overwhelmingly high pass rate in the Jeonbuk area for several years.
That JBNU records one of the highest nationwide pass rates each year in the appointment examination is the result of efforts to create conditions that allow students to prepare for the exam systematically.
JBNU operates the 'Hakisarjae' teacher appointment examination preparation class within Urim Injaedeungyonggwan to provide accommodations where examinees can live and study systematically. Each department also runs its own exam preparation class, fostering a scholarly atmosphere.
In particular, the College of Education provided special, group-based guidance by its faculty at each stage (first through third) of the appointment examination. External experts were also invited to deliver systematic instruction covering educational theory, subject examinations, class demonstrations, and interviews.
Even after the appointment examination, successful candidates are invited to a celebratory event where diverse feedback is gathered and reflected in future exam guidance to increase student satisfaction.
Kang Jong-gu, Dean of the College of Education, said, 'This year marks the 40th anniversary of the College of Education. Through student-centered open education and diversification of curricular content, the College cultivates excellent teachers who possess both professional competence and character. We will not spare further support to ensure that students continue to achieve strong results in the appointment examination each year.'
