Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) ranked eighth among roughly 200 universities nationwide in financial support received last year from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (excluding current expenses such as personnel costs).

On the 25th, The Korea Economic Daily obtained and analyzed the report '2011 University Support Projects and Status', which shows that JBNU received a total of KRW 65.2 billion from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology over the past year, placing it among the universities receiving the largest Ministry budgets after Seoul National University (KRW 298.8 billion), Yonsei University (KRW 145.7 billion), and Korea University (KRW 126.9 billion).

In fact, JBNU received approximately KRW 9.47 billion last year out of the total project budget of KRW 37.6 billion for the construction of the High-enthalpy Plasma Research Center Jeonbuk National University, which is being established as the fifth of its kind in the world. It also received approximately KRW 5.67 billion for the New and Renewable Energy Industry Talent Development Project, which is operated under the Regional Leading Industry Talent Development Project selection.

In addition, the Center for Healthcare Technology Development, which researches convergence technologies integrating engineering with food and medical fields, received approximately KRW 2.92 billion. The World-Class University (WCU) Project also provided approximately KRW 2.74 billion, highlighting JBNU's research achievements.

In the field of education, under selection for the ACE Project, which selects the nation's best teaching universities, JBNU received approximately KRW 2.76 billion last year. JBNU also received approximately KRW 4.73 billion through the Education Capacity Enhancement Project, for which it has been selected for four consecutive years.

These results are attributed to JBNU's sustained strengthening of its nationally leading research and educational competitiveness, which has gained government recognition and attracted significant financial support across research, education, and other areas.

In particular, after becoming the first regional university to achieve KRW 100 billion in research funding awarded in 2010, JBNU won a total of KRW 117.5 billion in research funding last year, ranking first among regional comprehensive universities and further consolidating its national reputation as a university that attracts substantial government financial support.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology allocated a total budget of KRW 4.5289 trillion last year to various support programs, including research and development (R&D) and scholarships, for 189 four-year universities.
