Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) recently stepped in to support efforts to attract Hyosung Co., Ltd.'s Jeonju Carbon Plant, which has been facing difficulties due to land compensation issues.
On January 19 at 10:00 a.m., Director Kim Min-ho of the Office of External Relations visited Jeonju City, met with Deputy Mayor Mun Myeong-su, and donated 5 million won.
Director Kim said, "Upon hearing that Hyosung Co., Ltd., which would serve as a foundation for regional development, is encountering difficulties in construction due to land compensation issues, I thought that, as a regional flagship university, we should show interest and offer support. I hope that, since members of the university community have united in support to attract Hyosung's Jeonju Carbon Plant, this effort will lead to good news for regional development."
At 10:30 a.m. the same day, the JBNU Student Council (President Park Seung-wan) also issued a statement in the briefing room at Jeonju City Hall expressing support for the construction of Hyosung's Jeonju Carbon Plant.
They said, "The attraction of Hyosung's Jeonju Carbon Plant represents an extremely valuable employment opportunity for JBNU's 20,000 students and, furthermore, for all young people in North Jeolla Province. Given that the previously hopeful effort to attract the LH headquarters failed and led to disappointment, we must make every effort to secure Hyosung's Jeonju Carbon Plant."
They added, "To realize the vision of creating a dynamic Jeonju, proactive action is needed to tap the potential of North Jeolla Province — namely, to address youth employment issues. For the future of young people, we ask that the city government spare no effort in attracting companies in the carbon industry."
