Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) is extending warm assistance to local residents in need as the year ends, fulfilling its role as a regional national university.
At the end of last year, JBNU delivered approximately 20.2 million won in total, raised through a charity bazaar and donations collected from university members, to disadvantaged individuals from all walks of life.
On the 18th, President Seo Geoseok delivered part of the funds to media outlets and donated 225 bags of rice, worth about 10 million won, to Jarim In-aewon and Jeonju Jarimwon in Seongdeok-dong, Jeonju, and to the Down Regional Children's Center in Deokjin-dong.
In addition, of the more than 4,000 items collected for the bazaar, roughly 600 unsold items — including clothing, books and miscellaneous goods — will be used as supplies to support students' overseas volunteer activities, expanding the university's outreach globally.
Meanwhile, the Employee Council (Chair Lee Kyung-chun), composed of staff members, held a scholarship presentation and encouragement session at 11:30 a.m. that day in the President's Office at Headquarters for child heads of household in the province.
These scholarships have been provided by the Employee Council since last year to encourage students who are supporting their households at a young age while continuing their studies.
The Employee Council invited seven students to the university, including a student surnamed Seok from Jeonju Wansanseo Elementary School, and awarded each a scholarship of 300,000 won.
Through ongoing home visits, they also serve as family caretakers by inspecting electrical systems and various aspects of living conditions, providing significant support to the students.
President Seo Geoseok said, "I am proud and delighted that the warm-hearted contributions our members collected together can be used for marginalized neighbors," adding, "We will continue to establish a culture of donation, build a social service system, and strengthen support for socially vulnerable groups."
