"Let's share the warmth of the Lunar New Year with our foreign families."

Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) held a Seollal (Lunar New Year) event for foreign families on January 18 at 3:30 p.m. in the Geunji Art Hall of the Samsung Arts Center.

This event is held annually to invite foreign members studying or working at JBNU to share traditional Korean culture and to promote fellowship among foreign members.

The event was attended by President Seo Geoseok and about 200 foreign family members. Performances on stage included traditional Korean music by master singer Kim Min-suk and instrumental performances featuring the haegeum and ajaeng.

Foreign participants also took part directly, learning Korean folk songs and enjoying a variety of Seollal folk games such as jegichagi, yutnori, and ring toss, followed by an impromptu talent show.

In his welcome address, President Seo Geoseok said, "Ahead of Seollal, Korea's biggest holiday, we hold this event every year so that international students can experience Korean culture and have an enjoyable time. Although their hometowns are far away, I hope they can welcome the New Year with joy, mingle with other foreign families on campus, and alleviate their homesickness."

Meanwhile, this event has been held since 2003 for foreign families who must spend the holiday far from home. It promotes traditional Korean culture to foreign members on campus and fosters fellowship among them, drawing a positive response.
