Jeonbuk National University (JBNU) will host a large-scale research exchange event to expand the university's advanced-field research outcomes into industry and future growth engines. From January 20–22, 2025, JBNU will hold the '2025 JBNU Research Fair Week (2025 JBNU RFW)' around Jinsudang.
Under the slogan "Expanding Research Outcomes Into Industry and the Future," the event will bring together JBNU's outstanding research capacity and achievements in advanced fields. The focus is on widening the intersection between industry–university collaboration and regional innovation.
In particular, conferences centered on national strategic industries such as Physical AI and the defense industry, together with BK21 education and research group academic events, will simultaneously present policy needs in strategic industry sectors and share JBNU's excellent research.
On the first day, January 20, 2025 (Tuesday), the opening ceremony will be followed by a Physical AI and Defense Industry conference. Leading experts from industry, academia, and research institutes—including the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, the Defense Technology Promotion Research Institute, and Hyundai Rotem—will highlight rapid acquisition strategies for new technologies and strategies for protecting defense technologies.
The second session will spotlight JBNU's efforts related to Physical AI, including manufacturing innovation strategies and system implementation, the future of Physical AI, and AX innovation cases. Experts from the Science and Technology Policy Institute, LG Electronics, the ETRI AI and Robotics Research Division, PwC Consulting, and WiseNut will deliver presentations and participate in discussions.
Through these sessions, the organizers plan to establish a discussion framework that links technology trends and industry needs and to discuss the potential for research to translate into solutions for real industrial problems.
On January 21 and 22, BK21 education and research group academic events will showcase recent research outcomes from research groups involving eight departments. Seminars inviting overseas experts who collaborate on the research will also take place.
Especially for students, there will be special lectures and talk concerts by senior researchers who are resident international students and by researchers from major corporations. Explanations of international student support programs in the Jeonbuk region and sessions on practical university living will share experiences of studying, career planning, and settlement in the region.
During these sessions, researchers will speak directly about their research processes, challenges, and careers. The program is expected to vividly demonstrate the current state of the regional research ecosystem.
JBNU President Yang O-bong said, "This event brings together research outcomes in national strategic industries in one place to expand the university's achievements so that they lead to industrial and future growth." He added, "Based on JBNU's leading research capabilities in advanced fields, including Physical AI and the defense industry, we will strengthen industry–university collaboration and drive innovation at the regional and national levels."
