Spanish is the official language used in UN and many of the international organizations. About 350 million people are using Spanish, making it the most often used language in the world, considering the number of nations. To pace with the increasing interest and use of the language in terms of trading with the Central and South American nations, Spanish, Central and South American Literature Department in Chonbuk University was established in 1987. It was the only one in Jeonbuk area, except Seoul National University in Seoul. There are only 13 universities in Korea that have this department. For the students who wish to acquire high level of Spanish language, our department offers systematic curriculum taught by the professors who play a pivotal role in the field of Spanish Literature. Our department has set up a sisterhood relationship with a university in Barcelona, Spain, and 스페인 알깔라 대학 so that the students who wish to study in Spain can get the opportunity to go abroad and experience the Spanish culture and learn the language as an exchange student every year. There also is a teacher training course in the department for the students who wish to teach Spanish after graduating the university; they can obtain a secondary teaching certificate.
