Our department is….
Department of Journalism & Communications was established in 1988, and has produced around 300 undergraduates since then. The department’s firm reputation, though not very long history, was recognized as “the most distinctive” at a nationwide departmental assessment in 2002. Strong faculty members, and well-organized curriculm and educational systems provide the undergraduates with the remarkable chances to be trained as competitive media personnel – journalists, broadcast producers, directors and technicians, and advertising and/or public relation specialists. The department also now offers MA and Ph.D courses in Journalism & Communications.
What do I study….
Undergrade scheme of the department aims to educate competitive media practitioners, ranging from newspaper, broadcasting, new media to adverising and public relations fields. After sketching general understandings of journalism & communications studies – journalism, media history, communication theories and methodologies, laws and ethics and popular culture - the undergraduates are encouraged to take one of three practical modules – newpaper, broadcasting, and adverising public relations. The focus of graduate studies, in the meanwhile, is on more theoretical and methodological aspects of communications, in order for the graduates to be able to work his/her own original research.
What can I do afterwards….
Undergraduates are demanded to seek for professional media careers, either through publicized media job market, or through independent job-searching, or to upgrade their academic achievements through own graduate studies.
