Department of Korean Language Education started recruiting students from 1972 as the College of Education in Chonbuk University approved its establishment on December 17, 1971. At that time, there was no specialized organization that was able to foster secondary teachers in Junlabukdo; thus the College of Education was established to improve the quality of secondary education. Our department became the cradle of Korean Education ever since.
The recruitment capacity was 20 students from the class 1 to 4, 30 students in the 5th class, and from the 6th admission, it was increased to 40 students. In 1981, there were 52 students who actually entered our department as graduating student number became fixed by the policy. In 1985, 10% of the graduating students was accepted, 44 students, and from 1986, the graduating student number decreased, so 31 students, and in 1987, 21 students were admitted. Since then, 20 students are admitted each year.
Our department has produced 900 alumni through 35 graduations. The alumni are working as secondary Korean Language teachers in Junbuk and other parts of Korea.
There are professor Kang Bong Geun (classical prose), Jun Jung Goo (modern poetry), Lee Jung Ae (semantics and Korean education), Han Chang Hoon (classical poetry education), and Moon Young Jin (modern novel education) in our department now.
