Department of Agricultural Economics is the only social science field of study. The purpose of establishment was to study the problems on agriculture, farming, farmers, and food in terms of economical, social, and historical way, and foster experts to contribute to the national economic and agricultural development.
In August 1951, 70 students were recruited, and 62 of them graduated in March 1955. The department opened master’s and doctoral program in 1966 and 1979, respectively.
The professors in the department are actively studying the problems of agricultural products, food economics, agricultural management, distribution, policy and district development, agricultural information, resources and environment that are related to the farm village and its industry, agriculture, and farmers.
Professor Jang Jae Woo (agricultural banking), So Soon Yul (agricultural history, district farming), Jung An Sung (agricultural management organization theory), Yang Byung Woo (agricultural food policy, food safety economics), and Paik Seung Woo (food marketing) are teaching in the department.
